* The Diocesan Museum
The Diocesan Museum The Diocesan Museum was born as an emanation of the Milan Diocese, as the expression of its influence
on art and its historical and ecclesial identity The Museum preserves the Diocese’s precious artistic patrimony, highlighting its historical and religious significance The first plans for a Diocesan Museum date back to 1931 and the Blessed Ildefonso Schuster, Archbishop of Milan In 1960 Giovan Battista Cardinal Montini (the future Paul VI) signed an agreement with the City of Milan for the preservation and diffusion of the faith, but it was Carlo Maria Cardinal Martini who started work on the reconstruction and adaptation of the cloisters of St Eustorgio where the museum was installed and finally inaugurated on November 5th,2001 The collection holds about 700 artworks Thanks to an accurate study conducted by the Archives of the Diocese’s Artistic Patrimony, research and inspections at the various parishes discovered real hidden treasures It marked the beginning of an ongoing project to enhance the visibility of the artistic patrimony of the Diocese which is one of the main objectives of the Diocesan Museum
