Foundation will award its one millionth scholarship dollar to a college-bound student in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, a community in which only about 50% of students graduate from high school Nearly 50 high school and college students from 10 local high schools will be recognized for their academic and community service accomplishments with a college scholarship in front of 500 parents, principals, counselors, teachers, community partners, elected officials, and event sponsors Councilmember Tony Cárdenas and LAUSD Board member Nury Martinez are among the local elected officials who will attend and provide remarks This year’s Keynote Speaker is Dr Raul Ruiz, ER Doctor and a graduate
of Harvard University and UCLA The breakfast will begin with a silent auction followed by remarks from elected officials and the Keynote Speaker, and conclude with the presentation of scholarship awards
The Andrés y María Cárdenas Family Foundation was founded in
1997 to award college scholarships to deserving and ambitious students from the Northeast San Fernando Valley Since 1997, the Foundation has awarded nearly 1,000 students with college
scholarships, an almost $1 million investment in the community’s youth Ernie Cárdenas, President of the Andrés y María Cárdenas Family Foundation, states, “I’m thrilled that our Foundation has reached this million dollar milestone in supporting students in the community to realize their dreams of a college education.” The
