Trang 2S ummer Bassoon Extravaganza at
Emory University is a great way to
develop musicianship and skills as a
bassoonist Participants engage in
bassoon and contrabassoon master
classes covering a variety of topics,
reed making, chamber music and
bassoon choir Nestled in the peaceful,
tree-lined suburban neighborhood of
Druid Hills, Emory quickly becomes a
home away from home The camp is
open to aspiring bassoonists, rising 8th
grade through adult The camp
package includes room and board and
all camp activities as well as the 2019
SBE T-shirt Campers also have
access to Emory’s recreation center
The week culminates in performances
by faculty and students.

New Zealand-born bassoonist Michael Burns has an
active career as a teacher and performer He is Professor of bassoon at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and is a Yamaha Performing artist He has recorded for major labels and his solo
CD Primavera: Music for Bassoon and Piano by
Bassoonists was released (2009) to critical acclaim
Burns is also a composer with many works published
by TrevCo Music, Potenza Music and Effiny Music and performed internationally He has given recitals and master classes throughout North America, Germany, China Italy and the South Pacific
In addition to playing regularly with orchestras
throughout the Southeast, bassoonist Joy Hoffman is
a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia in bassoon performance She earned degrees in bassoon performance from Florida State University (B.M., 2009), and University of Maryland (M.M., 2011)
Shelly Unger, DMA is perhaps best known for her
love of teaching bassoon Dr Unger is the founding
director of SBE and artist affiliate bassoon instructor at Emory University She is the second bassoonist with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and is a free-lance bassoonist and contrabassoonist in the Southeast.
