Vice-President Presidential/Vice-Presidential Application Packet

University of South Florida Student Government

Taken from Title 3 of the Student Government Statutes:

301.1 The duties and responsibilities of the President and Vice-President

shall be enumerated herein and shall not be limited to only those listed below.

301.2 Constitutionally granted powers of the President are those powers

delineated in the Student Body Constitution, including:

301.2.1 Assume responsibility for all Agencies of Student Government,

including the power to nominate, and with the advice and consent of the Agency Review Board, appoint and remove all Agency heads.

301.2.2 Nominate, with the advice and consent of the Senate, Justices to

the Supreme Court.

301.2.3 Nominate, with the advice and consent of the University

President, Student Representatives to University-Wide Committees.

301.2.4 Represent the Student Body on the State Council of Student

Body Presidents, the Florida Student Association, and other similar representative bodies.

301.2.5 Sign or Veto within ten (10) school days, all legislation passed

by the senate, with exception to changes of the Rules of Procedure of the Senate Failure to act within this time period shall be deemed as approval of such legislation.

301.2.6 Address the Senate at least once a semester.

301.2.7 Call for a referendum of the student body, subject to the

approval of a supermajority of the Senate.

301.2.8 Initiate the budget process by providing a proposed Activity

and Service Fee budget to the Senate.

301.2.9 Nominate, with the advice and consent of the Senate, a student

to fill a vacancy in the position of Student Body Vice President, should the need arise.

301.3 Statutorily granted powers are those powers granted to the President

by these Statutes These powers, duties, and responsibilities are:

301.3.1 Nominate, with the advice and consent of the Senate, Cabinet

Officers and remunerated Administrative Assistants as needed.

301.3.2 Nominate Student Representatives to serve on the Marshall

Center Board of Associates.

301.3.3 Draft Executive Orders as provided in Statutes.

301.3.4 Administer and enforce all Statutes.

301.3.5 Initiate legislation for consideration by the Student Government

Senate.

301.3.6 Call, at will, special session of the Student Senate, providing at

least 96 hours notice to all members both by voice and in writing Such notice shall take the form of direct e-mail.

301.3.7 Be empowered to represent the student body officially within

the university, to state and national student associations that the

Student Government of the University of South Florida is a member of, the University Board of Trustees, the State and federal legislative bodies, and all other appropriate forums extended to the university.

301.3.8 Any and all other actions necessary and proper to carry out the

duties of this office; such actions may be approved by a majority vote of the Senate

301.4 Constitutionally granted powers of the Vice-President are those

powers delineated in the Student Body Constitution, including:

301.4.1 Assume responsibilities of the President, should the President

be unable to complete his or her term for any reason.

301.4.2 Represent the Student Body in the absence of the President.

301.5 Statutorily granted powers are those powers granted to the Vice

President by these Statutes These powers, duties, and responsibilities are:

301.5.1 Presiding over Executive Office meetings as provided in

Statutes.

301.5.2 Oversee the operation of the Cabinet.

301.5.3 Presiding over screening committees as called by the President 301.5.4 Any and all other actions necessary and proper to carry out the

duties of this office; such actions may be approved by a majority vote of the Senate

forthcoming election will be undertaken in accordance with and will be governed by: All applicable University of South Florida policies and campus regulations (ex: policies for signage, solicitation, etc.); the Student Body Constitution; the Student Government Statutes; the Election Rules Commission Rules of Procedure; and the Student Code of Conduct I acknowledge that based upon my conduct I will be subject to the decisions and sanctions of the Elections Rules Commission and the Student Government Supreme Court

I, the undersigned acknowledge that injuries or loss can result from participation in Student Government elections I, therefore, assume all risk of injury, loss of life and loss or damage to property, arising out of participation in the election I release the University of South Florida, its Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff, Student

Government, and Election Rules Commission from all liability as to any right of action that may accrue to me, my heirs or representatives, for any such injuries or loss, that I may suffer while participating in this university sponsored program.

to appear before the Election Rules Commission or Student Government Supreme Court when summoned

I understand that my academic and disciplinary records will be checked to verify

my eligibility.
