Boston experiences four distinct seasons

It has warm summers with average temperature of 77°F (25°C), and moderately cold winters with an average temperature

of 32°F (0°C)

Spring, summer and early fall are the most temperate seasons Freezing temperatures can be common from late October until the end of March

UMass Boston is located on Columbia Point Peninsula,

close to the downtown area of the exciting and

cosmopolitan city of Boston The campus shares a

picturesque peninsula with the John F Kennedy Presidential

Library and Museum, and offers exquisite views of the city

and Boston Harbor.

UMass Boston offers 46+ undergraduate degrees and many undergraduate certificate programs, 62 master’s degrees and graduate certificate programs as well as 14 doctoral programs It also has over 35 programs for international cultural experiences through its six discipline-based colleges, the John W McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies, and University College (formerly known as Continuing Education) offering courses and ESL for students

Navitas USA offers a University Pathway Program (UPP) at

UMass Boston By choosing this program, you will gain the

knowledge and skills to be able to successfully complete a

degree in the United States From the day you enroll in this

program, you will be a UMass Boston student

Be a UMass Boston student

from day one!

• receive a packaged English + Academic visa that lasts for the entire duration of study (up to five years)

• not need to re-apply to the university or transfer your visa when you enter Year 2

• be eligible to work off-campus for academic credit (CPT)

• be eligible to work full time up to one year in the United States after completion of studies (OPT)

your pathway to UMass Boston

The Navitas at UMass Boston UPP offers an alternative

pathway to UMass Boston for international students who

may not qualify for direct entry to a UMass undergraduate

degree and who seek a supportive study environment

The UPP is equivalent to the first year of a UMass Boston

bachelor’s degree program Courses within the UPP are

predominantly UMass Boston first-year degree courses,

and are taught by UMass Boston instructors

Upon successful completion of the UPP you will receive full credit towards selected undergraduate degree programs This credit is applied to your degree, allowing you to move directly into the second year of your chosen degree program

UPP: college of Liberal arts

This program is equivalent to the first year of a UMass

Boston Bachelor of Arts degree It provides the foundation

for further study in many aspects of the humanities, fine

arts, and social sciences By undertaking the UPP, you will

have the opportunity to explore areas that interest you and

choose a suitable major when you progress to the second

year of the Bachelor of Arts.

Your Liberal Arts education will help you develop skills that will be invaluable throughout your career As well as developing the confidence to find creative solutions to problems, you will learn how to:

• communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

• adapt to new situations quickly

• analyze information

If you do not meet the minimum English language

requirement for the UPP or the UPP Mixed English option,

you can enroll in a preparation course at UMass Boston’s

University College The University Preparation English

Program is designed to help you improve your language

proficiency before you begin your studies with Navitas at

UMass Boston.

intensive english Program

This full-time course is provided by UMass Boston for students who do not have the required English proficiency test scores to enter directly into the UPP Mixed program

Course work includes intensive practice in the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing The learning process is enhanced through assigned readings and exercises, as well

as oral presentation and writing projects

Computer lab time is scheduled, and you will receive basic instruction in

research and creating presentations for academic purposes

The University Preparation English Program combines intensive English study with courses to prepare you for college or university studies in the United States Classes take place Monday through Friday between 8.00am and 4.00pm, for a total

of 20–24 hours per week

This integrated program focuses on instruction in university study skills, academic writing, and content-based course work typical of a United States university classroom Computer lab time

is scheduled, and you will receive basic instruction in research and creating presentations
