• General market context

- The rapid and volatile development of the economy - society has brought about significant changes

in the material and spiritual life of each person in society, especially in developing countries like Vietnam Since then, the problems of stress and pressure are increasing

- A statistic shows that up to 6% of the population in Ho Chi Minh City suffers from depression Currently, depression is tending to be younger with the age group from 15-27 years old

- According to a report by the Institute of Mental Health, every year in Vietnam, more than 40,000 people commit suicide due to depression At school age, the rate of depression is higher than that of the general population from 4-6%, with the prevalence rate can be up to 16%

- In 2019, the National Children's Hospital conducted a survey with 834 students in Hanoi and 726 students in Hung Yen The results show that the rate of depression with varying degrees in Hanoi is 31% and Hung Yen is close to 19% The percentage of students suffering from stress in Hanoi is nearly 39% and in Hung Yen it is nearly 22%

- In addition, a survey and statistics on 1,727 secondary school students in Hanoi found that more than 25% of the students showed signs of mental disorders Another survey found that more than 20%

of first graders showed signs of mild to moderate school anxiety

- However, in a recent survey, more than 70% of people surveyed answered that they are not interested

in psychological issues and have no knowledge in this area

→ It seems that the need to solve psychological problems is high and hidden in every person, but the students are still not really aware of the importance of mental health which leads to this condition

Trang 11

Mental health of young people, especially students, is becoming more and more serious, greatly affecting future generations of the country

- The current COVID-19 pandemic has directly and seriously affected the psychological health of people, especially young people

 At the COVID-19 Resuscitation Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, which is in charge of Cho Ray Hospital, 53.3% of the surveyed patients had anxiety disorders With the group of patients who used

to breathe high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) still at this hospital, the rate of depression was up to 66.7% The situation is similar for the group of patients who ventilator or oxygen through a mask

Trang 12

2 Market demand

• The prevalence of general mental health problems in Vietnam ranges from 8% to 29% for children and adolescents A recent epidemiological survey of a nationally representative sample of 10 out of

63 provinces found that the average prevalence of adolescent mental health problems is around 12%,

or more than 3 million adolescents need mental health services

• However, the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a survey in Vietnam in 2014 and found that there were only 0.91 psychiatrists per 100,000 population

→ The need for students' mental health is great, but Vietnam's medical services have not yet caught up to meet this demand

• Speaking at the celebration of World Mental Health Day, October 10, 2021, held on the morning of October 10 in Hanoi, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Vietnam, Dr Kidong Park, said the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on people's mental health and

"highlights the growing need for mental health support"

• At some universities of health sciences in Hue, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City by online survey on

a convenient sample size 12.7% of students showed signs of depression during the COVID-19 pandemic According to statistics from the Central Psychiatric Hospital, among those with abnormal psychological symptoms who have recently visited for examination and counseling, up to 30% are students

• A study of people's searches in Vietnam and Southeast Asia during the Covid-19 pandemic by iPrice

health issues during the

pandemic

• In a survey of Vietnamese

consumers by Deloitte in 2020,

58% of surveyed households

have increased spending on

healthcare products and

Trang 13

3 Market trends

Digital healthcare is one of the fastest growing segments of the Vietnamese healthcare market Digital healthcare uses a variety of technologies to improve healthcare Examples include remote sensing and wearables; telemedicine and medical information; health behavior modifiers; health and media Its end users are patients, healthcare providers, health system managers, and data services

• Digital health is becoming more and more popular As of mid-2019, 14 public hospitals have successfully applied the Electronic Medical Record system The recent COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to the growth of Digital Health Bluezone, a Bluetooth-based phone app to track people with COVID-19, has attracted more than 21 million downloads in just four months of its launch Telemedicine platforms have also been widely used to serve the medical examination and treatment needs of patients during the period of social isolation due to fear of going to the hospital during the epidemic

• During the pandemic, countries reported widespread disruptions to many key types of mental health services: More than 60% reported disruptions to mental health services for vulnerable populations vulnerable, including children and young people (72%), older adults (70%) and women in need of antenatal or postnatal services (61%) 67% said counseling and psychotherapy were interrupted; 65% for serious harm reduction services; and 45% for opioid agonist maintenance treatment for opioid dependence About a quarter report at least a partial disruption of mental health services in schools and workplaces (78% and 75% respectively) While many countries (70%) have adopted medicine teletherapy or teletherapy to overcome disruptions to face-to-face services, there are significant disparities in the reception of these interventions More than 80% of high-income countries say they have implemented telemedicine and teletherapy to close mental health gaps, compared with less than 50% of low-income countries

• Hospitals around the world in general and in Vietnam in particular have simultaneously increased investment in digital technology platforms Fortune Business Insights predicts that the global telehealth services market will reach $185.7 billion in 2026 compared to $34.3 billion in 2018, with

an average annual growth rate of 23.5%

→ During the Covid-19 pandemic, many mental health services have been interrupted or interrupted

→ many governments have applied therapy, treatment, and telehealth to overcome this situation The telehealth market is also growing rapidly in recent years and is expected to grow strongly in the future

4 Market outlook

• According to Maxfield Brown, manager of the foreign investment consulting firm in Asia Dezan Shira & Associates (DSA), Vietnam is a country with great potential for mental health services, one

of the most important and practical areas of psychology

• Potential from the government

The draft National Strategy on Mental Health for the period 2016-2025, with a vision to 2030, represents a commitment to universal health care coverage, with priority given to poor areas and those

in difficult circumstances , ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups The draft adopts a life cycle approach, in which mental health policies, plans and services are tailored to specific needs across all life stages (infants, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly) Notably, the Draft sets out targets related to mental health protection for children and adolescents in order to prevent and

Trang 14

- Deputy Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan emphasized that mental health is an important issue that attracts the attention of the whole society Deputy Minister Dao Hong Lan also suggested that units and organizations should continue to research and find out mechanisms and policies for children, especially children with mental health problems; effective models and propose practical and appropriate solutions

- The Government has a policy to propose a psychological counseling plan for students in 2017:

▪ Psychological counseling for students is psychological support, helping students improve their understanding of themselves, their family situations, and social relationships, thereby increasing positive emotions and making their own decisions in difficult situations students face while studying at school

▪ Psychological counseling for students is the interaction, psychological support, and intervention (when necessary) of counselors and teachers for students when they encounter difficult learning situations, family situations, etc family, relationships with others, or self-perception, thereby increasing positive emotions, self-selecting, and decision-making in that situation

→ The government has been interested in raising awareness and taking care of mental health for students, so that social enterprises like Talyvi will have a lot of potential to be helped and supported

by the government or professionally oriented in their activities

• Foreign investment increased sharply:

- Recognizing the inadequacies of current public health care, the Vietnamese government has encouraged private sector development by easing restrictions on foreign investment The current free trade agreements between Vietnam and ASEAN countries, EVFTA, also contribute to attracting foreign investment

- The relaxation of foreign investment regulations has attracted investment capital into Vietnam Some notable investment contracts such as Tam Tri Medical Group received $25 million from VinaCapital investment fund Japan's Taisho Corporation merged with Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Company for $150 million In August 2020, VinaCapital invested $26.7 million in Thu Cuc International General Hospital

→ The trend of investing heavily in Health is expected to grow in the future because the market still has many opportunities for development

• Potential from the system, digital infrastructure in Vietnam

The digital infrastructure in Vietnam is developing rapidly The country's Internet penetration rate is 67%, with an annual increase of 28% And it is expected that 78% of the population will use the internet in 2024 (KPMG)

Trang 15

Furthermore, 4G coverage is 95% nationwide with 5G pilots underway It is expected that by

2024, the number of 4G registrations will reach 79.2 million

→ The strong development of digital infrastructure makes it convenient for businesses to develop high-tech products, cut input costs, easily reach customer groups and thereby create conditions for the growth of digital healthcare in many areas, such as wearables, mobile health and telemedicine
