In what ways can you improve your hometown?: There is a problem in

the city of Hanoi where I live that is traffic congestion at rush hour and air pollution As a citizen living in Hanoi, I will improve this situation by using public transport to join traffic, in addition, I will urge everyone to use public transport to reduce the situation traffic jams and reduce emissions into the environment

PART 2: Describe your home town.

I was born and raised in Thanh Hoa province, and I can say it is my favorite place

It is not the biggest province but it is very large and is contiguous with many otherprovinces of the country Thanh Hoa is a province that is both traditional andmodel because there are many festivals celebrated by the locals and it is starting to

be developed with more sophisticated infrastructure

Thanh Hoa is also special as it offers many tourist attractions because it has manybeautiful sceneries such as Sam Son Beach, Hai Tien Beach, and a recent youthattraction, Pu Luong Nature Reserve

I think Thanh Hoa is a province with great potential for development because of itslarge population and abundant natural resources available And the governmentand leaders are increasingly turning this place into one of the biggest province inVietnam

Most people in this world do not live in their hometowns Why?

Well, I guess, most people feel that there will be more opportunities outside of their hometowns Therefore, many believe that living in such a potential place, with relatives and friends can be distracting and too relaxing on the way of

Trang 4

pursuing goals Moreover, people (not only the youth) strive to explore other places and experience different cultures over the world.

* Describe your idea of making a good first impression in a job interview.

Almost all the people like me are looking for good job opportunities So, I mustknow how to leave a good first impression in a job interview In my opinion, thereare a few tips to make a good first impression in an interview

First, about the looks An interviewee who dresses politely and appropriately forthe situation often receives sympathy from the interviewer The attribute of qualitywork with which the application is suitable for clothing

Second, about gestures, manners Need members to arrive on time so as not to hold

a grudge against the employer In addition, the style of walking, gestures tocommunicate with people, also need to be done properly

Besides, there is an important point that is your qualifications, By going throughthe required tasks and skills for the vacancy, the company culture or give somesuggestions to improve your performance The capacity of the duties for which youmay be responsible upon receiving the position may help you to stand out from theother members

In addition to the above conditions, the model is a very important thing for you torecord the jealous press with others The recruitment team will check thecandidate's regime during the interview to select the best fit for the position So, agood first impression is not enough, we must build a good relationship with theemployer by making a good last impression By doing so, we showed our respectfor the employer and the job for which we applied

Participating in a job interview is not a pleasant experience However, we mustovercome it to pursue our dream job Therefore, we should be fully prepared forsuch people

Trang 7

Reason: The first justification why I want to become a journalist is that I can havethe opportunity to be a “globetrotter” to write about important events or introducelatest news to people Just the thought of travelling to different places not only in

my country but also in other regions makes me feel excited The second reason andalso another interesting fact about being a journalist is that it provides me with thechance to work and communicate with people from all walks of life and fromvarious areas, which encourage mutual understanding

Example: And to become a journalist, I think I must be well-prepared to meet therequirements First, when finishing the third year in university, I should participate

in an internship in a prestigious communications agency and then I need to studyhard so that I can get a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism

Becoming a journalist is not an easy task at all but to me, practice makes perfectand I will try my best to realize my dream!

PART 3

1 Which jobs would you say are most respected in your country?

Answer: Well, I have never thought about this, but I reckon that professionalcareers such as the fields of law, education, and medicine may be the most highly-acclaimed ones It is mainly because of the fact that people working in these fieldscan easily earn lucrative income compared to others

2 Some people say it’s better to work for yourself than be employed by a company What’s your opinion?

Answer: Well, I used to be a full time employee & felt very stressful To bespecific, most of the time, I had a hectic schedule & was up to ears in heavyworkloads to meet deadlines Therefore, although running my own business isreally challenging, I do feel far more comfortable with it

Trang 8

4 What are some of the important things a candidate should find out before accepting a job?

Answer: Well, this is an interesting question If I were offered a job, I woulddefinitely go through the company’s compensation package such as salary, allowances, maternity or paternity leave, insurance, pension plans, vacations, etc. Also, I’d need to know about my area of responsibilities so that I can make surethat I will not be overwhelmed with heavy workloads down the road

The subject I’d like to describe is World History It was a subject taught inhighschool About one hour is allotted everyday to learn about significanthistorical events For some of my classmates, it was a boring subject but I enjoyed

As a subject, it required us to memorize a lot which was a disadvantage for me and

my classmates at that time because it consumed much of our time Nevertheless, history really intrigues me I am always curious about how humans lived in thepast I have always been interested to look into how history turned us into thepresent generation It fascinates me

Trang 10

Part 3: EDUCATION

1 How are education priorities today different from those in the past?

In a fast-changing world we are in today, education priorities have transformed aswell In our current society, education opens more opportunities for a wider skillset that were not offered in the past For example, colleges and universities havemore specific major or courses as compared before Education has also involvedthe use of the modern technology such as computers and other gadgets that werenot present in the past

2 Is a good education more important to a boy or a girl? Why?

Good education is important for both boys and girls Both should be given equalrights to education In today’s society, women have proven that they can do tasksand get jobs that only men used to have Women have shown their competency invarious fields such as politics, science, sports and etc Men on the other have alsoentered some industries that used to be considered as women’s job such ascooking, housekeeping, fashion and etc I think both sexes must be given equalopportunities

Schools are considered our second home This is where we learn almosteverything, starting from the basic such as reading and writing Before we turn intoadults, this is the place where we get most of our training Therefore, schoolsshould also be the avenue to prepare us to enter into another chapter – the workinglife Schools must extend its training by educating and guiding the young people totheir future career

Trang 11

IV YOUR HOME

1 What kind of housing/accommodation do you live in?

For the past 21 years, I have lived in a house with my family And I think if I can move out and start making a living on my own, I would try my best to have an independent place where I can plan and design a house layout to suit myself since sharing a room or a flat with strangers sounds so troublesome to me

2 What do you usually do in your house/flat/room?

Well, definitely I’ll spend some me-time there I study, I chill out by

reading, drawing and dancing all by myself Sometimes I also invite one or two friends to spend time with We’ll watch some movies together and tell each other endless stories

3 Who do you live with?

I live with my family There are 5 of us and we all have our own room, which is way more comfortable as the older we grow, the more privacy we need for

ourselves I think our house is big enough for us yet still a warm and cosy place that I call home

4 How long have you lived there?

Although during my childhood my family had to move a lot, I’ve lived in the most recent house for almost ten years Comparing to the old houses, I think this house has been the best so far

5 Do you plan to live there for a long time?

The answer would be yes My parents have been living there for a long time and moving in and out is too time-consuming and exhausting Cleaning and arranging everything all over again would be like torture to them For me, on the other hand,

as I’m thinking of moving out to start my adult life, hopefully soon I’ll be able to afford to live in a flat or an apartment

Trang 12

6 What’s the difference between where you are living now and where you have lived in the past?

As I’ve already mentioned my family moved several times when I was younger And the most current house where we’ve been living for about ten years is the best house so far All of us have separate rooms for our need for privacy yet a big dining room where we can spend the whole evenings together watching TV or having dinner

7 Can you describe the place where you live?/ Please describe the room you live in

Briefly, my humble house locates in a small and quiet street, so coming home to

me is like all the craziness happened outside is left behind Just beside my house stands a big old tree I have my own room with walls painted violet, which is kind

of a peaceful colour The air outside is fresh I usually open the window to enjoy the wind and sunshine, which will help cool my room without an air conditioner Since I spend most of my time staying at home, my room means the whole world

to me It’s like a friend who is always there to share ups and downs with me So yeah, I would always miss my house, my room whenever I’m away

8 Which part of your home do you like the most?

It’s the dining room where my family spends our time together Not only lunch or dinner but all our family reunions take place in the dining room where we can enjoy a harmonious atmosphere We always try to keep the family dinner as

something we cannot go a day without, since for us it’s the family bonding that liesbehind

* Describe your ideal house

If I had to talk about my ideal house, it would be a beautiful house by the

seaside in a peaceful country setting.

I love the idea of having a two-storey house because I think it would be enough for a small family to live cosily It would have to be painted blue, which is my favourite colour, and the ceiling would be beautifully decorated with star and moon ornaments.

I love natural lights rather than artificial lights so each room would have its own windows The windows would also be decorated with coloured string

lights and various flowers, which would create a cosy atmosphere for my family.

I would hang some photos of inspirational quotes on the walls in case I need some motivation Each bedroom would have a balcony where we can enjoy the breathtaking view of the sea.

The perfect location would be by the sea because I love the idea of sitting on the

beach and watching the sunrise and the sunset every day Another reason is that the weather in coastal areas is usually nice―not too hot and not too cold It’s

pleasant almost all year round

Trang 14

I think I would have to save a lot of money if I want to buy a house like this The price of property has gone up dramatically in recent years, especially in coastal areas, but I think it’s really worth it.

V YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Part 1

1 Have you lived in your current living area for a long time?

I have been living in my current residential area for the better part of the last 4

years since I started going to university I had to leave my parents’ house because it’s quite far from my university

residential area /ˌrez.ɪˈden.ʃəl/ (noun phrase): khu dân cư

the better part of + time (noun phrase): được dùng để nhấn mạnh khoảng

2 What do you like about your current living area?

My current neighbourhood is highly accessible by public transportation especially buses, so going to school by bus is very convenient On top of that, I love the fact that there is a street full of amazingly scrumptious street food nearby.

highly accessible by something /əkˈses.ə.bəl/ (adjective phrase): dễ đến

on top of that (adv): trên hết, hơn thế nữa

scrumptious /ˈskrʌmp.ʃəs/ (adj): ngon tuyệt

Trang 15

3 What would you like to change about your area?

I wish more trash bins wouldbe placed around the area The exterior of my

apartment block is dirty because people often litter the streets due to a lack of trash bins I think it’s also due to a lack of education.

litter the streets /ˈlɪt.ər/ (verb phrase): xả rác ra đường phố

due to (adj): bởi vì

4 What are some changes in your area recently?

Well, there is a public park built in the proximity of my flat recently It’s called Thanh Xuan park This park is an ideal place to get around, have some fresh air, and do physical exercises to get lean.

in the proximity of something/prɒkˈsɪm.ə.ti/: ngay gần

get around (phrasal verb): đi loanh quanh

get lean /liːn/ (verb phrase): giữ cho cơ thể ít mỡ, thon gọn

Part 3

1 Do people living in small cities know more about their neighbours than people living in big cities?

Yes, they do The chances that people get to know each other in small cities are

definitely higher than those in the big ones because they live close together and

have time to make friends In contrast, in metropolises, people are constantly up

to their ears in work and study so they rarely pay attention to their neighbours.

get to know somebody/ something (verb phrase): làm quen, tìm hiểu

in contrast /ˈkɒn.trɑːst/ (adv): ngược lại

Trang 16

constantly up to one’s ears in something/ˈkɒn.stənt.li/: lúc nào cũng bận

2 Why do people rarely talk to each other?

I believe that people now infrequently talk in person for two main reasons First,

these days, people tend to focus their time on using digital devices such as mobile

phones or computers rather than hanging out with friends and communicating

face-to-face with them In addition, as I mentioned above, in modern life, people

are usually occupied in work and study so they don’t have much time to talk with

others

infrequently /ɪnˈfriː.kwənt.li/ (adv): hiếm khi

in person (adv): trực tiếp ngoài đời

hang out with somebody (phrasal verb): ra ngoài chơi, đi chơi

occupied in something /ˈɒk.jə.paɪd/ (adj): bận rộn

3 How could we improve relationships among people?

I would say that to strengthen relationships among neighbours, people need to

manage time more effectively As a result, they can spare some time to open their

hearts with their neighbours Besides, if they want to strike up a relationship with their neighbours, they have to pluck up the courage and make the first move Having a friendly attitude might leave a good impression on their

neighbours

strengthen something /ˈstreŋ.θən/ (verb)ən/ (verb): củng cố, làm mạnh hơn

Trang 17

spare some time (verb phrase): dành ra một chút thời gian

strike up a relationship with somebody /straɪk/ (phrasal verb): bắt đầu một

mối quan hệ với ai

pluck up the courage to do something /plʌk/ /ˈkʌr.ɪdʒ/ (idiom): can đảm

make the first move (idiom): chủ động trước, mở lời trước

leave a good impression on somebody /ɪmˈpreʃ.ən/ (verb phrase): gây ấn

PART 2

• How can you improve your neighborhood?

• How do places near your house affect you?

I live in a posh area of Lahore I love my house because it is located in a very goodplace in the city My house is in the suburbs and it is a very peaceful area There are no commercial buildings near my house and I am very happy because of this

On the right side of my house is a big bungalow whereas on the left and back side

of my house is a vacant plot The thing which I like the most is that there is a smallpark right across the street, so whenever feel like walking or jogging I simply got

to the park and get some fresh air

On a whole I am quite satisfied from my neighborhood but there is no hospital near

my house which has caused great distress to not only me but also to the other residents of the area I think that there should be a hospital in my neighborhood because 2 days back one of my neighbor met with an accident on his way to home and we had to travel 30 kilometers to find a hospital This is causing a lot of pain tothe people in the area

I am an extrovert I am meet new people and want to share my views with people

My neighborhood is actually helping me meet new people as there is also a club in the neighborhood where I go and meet new people and feel ebullient because of it
