Trang 2

The electric sector is the largest source of industrial (stack) emissions of toxic air pollution in the United States In

2009, coal- and oil-fired power plants accounted for nearly 50 percent of all reported toxic pollution from industrial sources The next largest sector, chemical processing and manufacturing, emitted less than one third of the electric sector’s total Power plants are the leading source of industrial toxic air pollution in 28 states and the District of

Trang 3

The Toxic Twenty

Power plants are the leading sources of toxic air pollution in all but four of the top 20 states by electric sector emissions.
