Điều trước tiên và tối quan trọng là phải cầm đầu dò đúng, muốn vậy ta phải nhận biết INDICATOR (gờ chỉ điểm): tuỳ hãng máy, đối với hãng GE,

indicator là gờ nổi ở một phía của đầu dò, tương ứng trên hình siêu âm là

bên có chữ GE ở bên trái màn hình.

- Khi thực hiện lát cắt dọc thì indicator ở phía đầu bệnh nhân.

- Khi thực hiện lát cắt ngang thì indicator ở phía bên phải bệnh nhân.

- Từ lát cắt dọc ta xoay ngược chiều kim đồng hồ để lấy lát cắt ngang,

ngược lại, từ lát cắt ngang ta xoay theo chiều kim đồng hồ để lấy lát cắt dọc.

Indicator là gờ nổi ở một bên đầu dò, tương ứng trên hình siêu âm là bên có chữ GE

Từ lát cắt dọc ta xoay đầu dò ngược chiều kim đồng hồ để lấy lát cắt ngang.

Từ lát cắt ngang ta xoay đầu dò theo chiều kim đồng hồ để lấy lát cắt dọc.

Một cách khác giúp nhận biết đầu dò đặt đúng hướng:

Ở lát cắt dọc, ta di chuyển đầu dò từ trên xuống dưới (đầu tới chân BN):

Nếu hình ảnh trên màn hình di chuyển cùng chiều từ trái qua phải màn hình):

đầu dò bị cầm ngược.

Ở lát cắt dọc, ta di chuyển đầu dò từ trên xuống dưới (đầu tới chân BN):

Nếu hình ảnh trên màn hình di chuyển ngược chiều (từ phải qua trái màn hình):

đầu dò cầm đúng.

Ở lát cắt ngang, ta di chuyển đầu dò từ phải qua trái BN:

Nếu hình ảnh trên màn hình di chuyển cùng chiều (từ trái qua phải màn hình):

đầu dò bị cầm ngược.

Ở lát cắt ngang, ta di chuyển đầu dò từ phải qua trái BN:

Với đầu dò qua ngã âm đạo, người ta không làm gờ indicator, mà qui ước indicator

ở phía đầu dò có rãnh để gắn kim làm siêu âm can thiệp Đầu dò gập góc sẽ dễ

làm can thiệp hơn đầu dò thẳng, phía có rãnh hướng lên trên dễ làm can thiệp hơn

hướng xuống dưới.
