• UNLESS = IF NOT

Lưu ý: Không được sử dụng WILL/ WOULD trong mệnh đề chứa UNLESS

Trường hợp 1: Đã cho động từ ở 1 vế

XEM VẾ ĐÃ CHO XÁC ĐỊNH LOẠI CỦA CÂU ĐIỀU KIỆN ĐỂ CHIA ĐỘNG TỪ

E.g: If I meet him, I (give) - him this book.

Nhìn thấy câu đề cho bên if là thì hiện tại nên ta biết đó là loại 1 nên ta chia loại 1:

If meet him, I will give him this book.

Trường hợp 2: Chia động từ ở cả 2 vế

Xác định xem sự việc có khả năng xảy ra ở hiện tại/ tương lai không?

Nếu có ĐK loại 1

Nếu không có (tức là trái với hiện tại) ĐK loại 2

Ví dụ: I (go) - there if I (be) - you

Dịch nghĩa: nếu tôi là bạn => chuyện không thể xảy ra nên dùng loại 2:

I would go there if I were you

2) Dạng viết lại câu dùng IF

Dạng này đề bài sẽ cho 2 câu riêng biệt hoặc nối với nhau bằng các chữ như:

so = that’s why (vì thế), because (bởi vì)

Đối với dạng này nếu các em thấy:

• Một trong hai câu chia thì tương lai  viết ĐK loại 1 (KHÔNG PHỦ ĐỊNH)

Eg: I will go there I will buy you a cat.

=> If I go there, I will buy you a cat.

• Một bên hiện tại, một bên tương lai / hiện tại viết ĐK loại 2

LƯU Ý:

• Khi chuyển sang câu ĐK loại 2

nếu tình huống là khẳng định phủ định (trong câu điều kiện)

nếu tình huống đã cho là phủ định khẳng định (trong câu điều kiện)

Eg: It is too hot today I cannot go out with my friends.

Phân tích: tình huống: is khẳng định; cannot go phủ định

• cả 2 vế đều ở hiện tại viết câu ĐK loại 2

Câu điều kiện: weren’t phủ định; could go out khẳng định

• Nếu tình huống có because  thay because thành if trong câu điều kiện

• Nếu tình huống có so, that’s why  để if ngược với vị trí của chúng (nhớ bỏ so, that’s why trong

câu điều kiện)

E.g: I can’t go out because it is sunny.

Phân tích: tình huống: can’t go out phủ định; is khẳng định

cả 2 vế hiện tại viết câu ĐK loại 2

có because thay because thành if

Câu điều kiện: chuyển từ is were (loại 2), chuyển khẳng định phủ địn: weren’t

chuyển can’t couldn’t (loại 2), chuyển phủ định khẳng định: could

E.g: It rains heavily today, so I cannot go to the beach.

cả 2 động từ ở hiện tại viết câu ĐK loại 2

rains: khẳng định; cannot go: phủ định

Có “so” mệnh đề có “so” là mệnh đề chính trong câu điều kiện, mệnh đề còn lại là mệnh đề if

If it didn’t rain heavily today, I could go to the beach.

3) Dạng viết lại câu đổi từ if sang dùng unless hoặc ngược lại

Unless sẽ thế vào chỗ chữ if, bỏ not, vế kia giữ nguyên.

E.g: If you don’t speak loudly, he won’t hear

Unless you speak loudly, he won’t hear

Từ unless chuyển sang if: thay unless thành if, thêm trợ động từ phủ định (don’t/ doesn’t/ didn’t)

vào trước động từ (lưu ý động từ ở dạng nguyên mẫu), vế còn lại giữ nguyên

E.g: Unless he studies harder, he will fail the exam.

If he doesn’t study harder, he will fail the exam.

4) Dạng viết lại câu đổi từ or, otherwise (nếu không) sang dùng if

Dạng này thường có cấu trúc là câu mệnh lệnh +or/otherwise + S will…

Cách làm như sau:

If you don’t + V-INF, viết lại vế sau (bỏ or, otherwise)

E.g: Hurry up, or/ otherwise you will be late (nhanh lên, nếu không bạn sẽ trễ)

If you don’t hurry up, you will be late (nếu bạn không nhanh lên,bạn sẽ trễ)
