1 How long have you been learning English?

I’ve been learning English since I was at secondary school, but it wasn’t my main subject so I didn’t focus on it I just studied grammar and reading Now English is very important to my job

so I want to improve it

- Yes, I do I want to learn Japanese/ Chinese because I love culture Moreover, many

Japanese/ Chinese companies have invested in Vietnam so I might have better job opportunities if

5 Is learning a foreign language important in Vietnam?

Yes, it definitely is Learning a foreign language especially English is very essential nowadays because it’s a global business language Knowing English means that you can have better job opportunities Moreover, you can travel all over the world without fear

6 What, in your opinion, is the best way to learn a language?

I would say the best way to study a foreign language is to go to the country where the language is spoken because then you have to speak in the target language environment and the more you practise, the better your language becomes

My family is everything to me They are my best friends and they support me when things aren't going well and when things are going well I know they'll always be there for me, no matter what

- To be honest, I would rather live in a small family so that we can easily take care of each other

great fun because cousins can play with each other Moreover, grandparents are able to look after their grandchildren when their parents are away at work

- My father’s very bossy He always asks us what to do every day Besides, he’s humourous, too

- Well, I come from province which is about kms far from Hanoi It’s in the North/

- My hometown is which is located in the suburbs of Hanoi I love living there a lot because there are lots of trees and the air is fresh

2 Do you like your hometown?

Yes, I do I really love it because there are lots of trees and the air is really fresh Besides, people

in my hometown are very friendly so we get on very well with our neighbours

3 What’s your hometown famous for?

Well, my hometown is well known for green bean cake, which is made from green bean and sugar

Like other Vietnamese villages, ours is surrounded by the rice paddy fields

4 Would you prefer to live somewhere else?

- Yes, I would Although it’s really peaceful and quiet in the countryside, it’s hard to find a job here Moreover, we don’t have as many entertainment facilities as those in the city, so I would say

I prefer living in the city when I’m young and returns to my hometown when I get retired

family and I have a stable job here

- Well, as I live in the countryside, it is sometimes too boring because there’s not much to do here

- Well, I would like to live in a villa by the sea It would have a swimming pool in front of it so

spacious enough for everyone to have a private room and a large living room where we could

invite friends to have meals sometimes

- Well, I would like to have a large house in the countryside It would have a large garden where

we could grow some vegetables and flowers I would love to grow some fruit trees around the

house as well

7 What do you like about your house/ flat?

What I like about my house/ flat is that it’s located in the city centre and is close to my office and

my children’s schools Moreover, it is large/ spacious enough for everyone to have their own

private rooms Finally, there are lots of trees so the air is fresh

8 What don’t you like about it?

The thing I don’t like about my house is that it’s far away from my office and my children’s schools Besides, it’s too small for my family Finally, it’s a bit polluted and noisy to live in our

neighbourhood

9 Can you tell me something about your neighbourhood?

- Well, it’s a small village where there are lots of trees so the air is really fresh The people here

are very friendly and we know each other very well However, there aren’t many things to do here: no cinemas, no shopping centres

centres, parks and so on However, the living cost is very high Besides, there is traffic jam and air pollution which make people stressful

- Yes, definitely I really enjoy living here so there are no reasons for moving then

1 What do you do in your spare time?

In my free time, I’m keen on/ interested in reading books because it helps me broaden my

knowledge and it’s relaxing to read my favourite book Besides, I enjoy listening to music, too

My favourite kind of music is Pop and I often listen to music while I’m studying or before

bedtime

2 Do you prefer spending your time alone or with others?

Well, it depends Sometimes, I would rather spend time on my own listening to my favourite

music or From time to time, I find it more fun to meet up with friends and we go out for a drink together and chat about everything in life

3 What are good hobbies and bad hobbies?

I would say good hobbies are those which bring benefits to us For example, playing sports is

good for your health On the other hand, playing games too much can have negative impacts on

your health so it’s considered a bad hobby then

HEALTH

1 What do you do to keep fit?

Well, I do various things to improve my health Firstly, I go for a walk early in the morning

Secondly, I try to have a healthy diet I mean I eat lots of low fat food like vegetables, fruit and drink plenty of water every day Finally, a good 8- hour night sleep also makes me stronger

2 Do you like sports?

Yes, I do L love playing football I often play it with my colleagues after work, twice a week on

Tuesdays and Fridays I play football in the stadtum near my house You know, playing football

is good for health Besides, it’s great fun to spend time with friends

3 What sports do you play?

I take up football

4 What is the most popular sport in your country?

I would say football is the most common sport in Vietnam You can see people of all ages take up this sport everywhere like in the park, on the pavement, in the stadium and so on Moreover, there are football matches every day on different channels

MUSIC

1 Do you like music?

Yes, I do I love all kinds of music such as Pop, Jazz, country and so on I often listen to music when I have free time or before bedtime I really enjoy it because it helps me to release stress

2 What kind of music do you like best?

Well, I enjoy all kinds of music but the one I love most is Pop It’s relaxing to listen to soft melody

3 Is there any other kind of music that you want to listen to?

Yeah Sometimes I’m keen on listening to rock as the loud sound makes me excited

4 When do you often listen to music?

I’m very busy during the day so I often listen to music in my free time when I get home in the evening or when I feel too stressed, I also listen to music to relax

5 Do you prefer live or recorded music?

I would say I like live music better because it’s lively and exciting However, I cannot afford live concerts as the tickets are very expensive Then, I would stay at home and listen to recorded music

on my computer or on the Internet

6 Do you prefer soft or loud music?

It depends When I’m in a good mood, I enjoy listening to soft music which makes me relaxed but

when I’m feeling sad/ blue, I would rather listen to loud music like rock so that it can help me to reduce stress

- I love the song hello by Adele It’s so soft and the melody really makes me relaxed when I listen

to it

I love My Tam most because she’s not only beautiful but she also has a very beautiful voice She

1 Do you like reading?

Yes, I do I love reading because it helps me to broaden my knowledge I often read books on my

major Besides, I’m really into reading news online as I can find out what’s happening around

Well, I read various things Sometimes, I read my coursebooks at university to get information From time to time, I read short stories to relax

3 Do you read for pleasure or work purposes?

I read books for both purposes Sometimes, I have to read some textbooks/ documents at work

but when I have free time, I read comic books or online news, too

4 Do you think it’s important for children to read?

Definitely yes Reading is essential for everyone, especially for children because reading enriches

children’s knowledge so it helps them to find out more about the world around them

Yes, I do I enjoy travelling a lot because it helps me to broaden my mind It’s true that I can

learn new cultures and meet different people while travelling Moreover, I am able to taste

traditional local food

2 Have you traveled this year?

Yes, I have I went to Nha Trang with my family this Summer I went to the beach and went

swimming in the sea Besides, I also visited some islands and ate lots of tasty seafood

3 Do you like traveling alone or with others?

I would rather travel with my friends or family because it’s more fun to spend time with them Then, we can take part in many activities together like

4 What do you often do on your holiday?

Well, it depends For example, when I go on a beach holiday, I prefer to relax on the beach or go swimming in the sea I often take lots of photos to keep great memories, too Sometimes, I enjoy

sightseeing and visiting tourist attractions

5 What kind of holiday do you prefer, active or beach holiday?

- Well, I would rather go on a beach holiday than go on an active holiday You know, I’m quite

busy at work so whenever I have several days off work, I will take this opportunity to spend time with my family and especially relax A beach holiday would be ideal for me to do so

or furniture and so on During Tet, they spend time visiting their friends and relatives Some might

go to pagodas or churches to pray for luck and happiness for their family throughout the year Children often get a lot of lucky money on this occasion

On my birthday, my family or friends often organize/ hold a party for me I often invite some

close friends and relatives to come First, we enjoy a meal together at home or at a restaurant and then we might go to karaoke bar to sing songs and dance until late at night

2 What is the best birthday gift you have received?

I would say the best present I have ever received was a mobile phone My father gave it to me on

my 19" birthday It’s a black Iphone I love it very much because I can use it to contact my

family members and friends Moreover, I can also keep photos or surf the Internet to read online news or watch movies

3 What are your plans for your next birthday?

- As usual, I am planning to have a small party with my family and close friends We will have a

birthday cake together Everyone will sing the happy birthday song and we have interesting

conversations It’ll be great fun
