Definition of Cooperative

• Cooperative is defined as an autonomy

organization formed voluntarily by a group of

people having similar socio-economic aspirations and needs which is owned managed and

controlled in a democratic manner by them

Establishment of Smallholders

Cooperative

• The main objective is to undertake all smallholder

development programs on a commercial and

participatory basis through their own institutions and to

develop a community of self-reliant smallholders with all

necessary service provided by their own institution The cooperatives are seen as a mechanism to empower the

smallholders to become self-reliant, progressive and

competitive and thereby reducing rural urban imbalances

in development

• Skilled workers could be created and thus solve shortage of

workers

• More efficient production as a result effective management

• Cooperative can enable the transformation of the smallholders into agro-entrepreneurs

• Cooperative can play the role of Extension Agents

self-reliant, progressive and competitive in terms of managing their holdings

smallholders in carrying out information dissemination and TOT activities
