Students create “TOEFL questions” to test their classmates’ listening comprehension
Working in pairs, students choose one of the conversations from Exercise 1.11.A Use the tapescript on page 692 Each student takes the part of one of the speakers Practice reading the dialogue, concentrating on pronunciation Write two new detail questions and four answer choices for each question One must be the correct answer! Give your questions to the teacher Type the answer choices and give copies to the class Present the dialogue to the class The teacher reads the questions, and the class takes a “live

1 Approximately one or two questions on the computer-based TOEFL will ask you to match words
and categories
2 A category is a class or type of something On the TOEFL, questions about matching words and
categories will have three or four words to match with the correct category
TOEFL questions about category sound like this:
You will use the mouse to click on a word and then click on the box where the word belongs The
word will appear in that box Use each word only once
Note: You must match ail of the words with the correct category to receive credit for answering
the question correctly
3 Ôn the actual test, questions about matching words and categories will be more challenging than
can be shown in this book because you will not see the question at the same time you hear the
information spoken In other words, you will not see the boxes and categories until after the
